Our
Adult Religious Education Programs Our Adult Religious Education
program offers a range of courses, workshops, and discussion groups. Schedules are published in the fall and
spring with updates in the newsletter.
We try to keep our calendar flexible to respond to needs as they
arise. Most of our facilitators are
members of the congregation who have a particular interest or skill. We do not charge for our classes, except
for a small materials fee in some cases, and we do not pay our facilitators. If you have any ideas for a topic we might
explore or a class you would like to teach, please contact either Margaret
White (through the office at 201-444-6225
or usr.secretary@verizon.net), The Rev. Sarah Lammert (usr.minister@verizon.net or
201-444-6225 x12), The Rev. Tracy Sprowls Jenks (usr.dre@verizon.net or 201-444-6225
x13) or Ministerial Intern Edward Scott Michael (201-444-6225 x 11 or emichael@uuma.org). Some of the offerings for the coming year
include: Saturday Morning Prayer Circle: meets in the Conference Room from 9-9:30 AM. This brief service includes a song,
readings, and shared silence. It
provides a place where people can speak to their deepest concerns in an
atmosphere that is intentionally reverent and open. Connections: a small group ministry
provides a forum for exploring one’s spiritual and intellectual life, as well
as a chance to deepen one’s sense of belonging in community. Sessions are facilitated and follow a
specific format for sharing and listening on such topics as luck,
illness/health, gossip, and the “American Dream Intro to U.U.: A five-week class offered three times during the year for anyone new to
Unitarian Universalism or new to this congregation. It is an excellent opportunity to get to
know one another. Zen Meditation: Meets on Monday nights.
Contact Bernard or Marcia Spitz at 201-444-6225 for information. Womyn’s Wisdom Circle: Focuses on women’s
spirituality. It’s members include
women from several local UU congregations.
WWC meets at USR on the second Sunday evening of each month. These meetings are for women only with each
circle led by a different woman. WWC
offers winter and summer solstice celebrations which are open to all. It is WWC tradition to offer winter
solstice at USR and summer solstice at CUC. One Book USR: a congregation-wide book group. Members will be invited to read a selected
book at the same time and to come together for discussion. The program is based on a tradition started
for the Seattle Public Library the purpose of which was to “promote reading,
spark discussion, and bring the community together.” Books and meetings will be announced in
the newsletter as well as on the
website.
